About
A game where you play as a ragdoll horse that can roll around to collect items. The objective is to deliver as many presents as possible within the time limit. It can be played by 1-4 players locally. Made on a team of 3 for the Extra Credits 2018 Holiday Jam.
My Contribution:
Responsible for programming and physics.
Designed the behavior for bombs and gifts.
Implemented art and audio.
Development:
For this jam the theme was "Present", and my team decided on a more literal take on it. The objective was to deliver more presents than your opponents.
Early on, I tried making a rolling "horse" out of cubes for fun, and we decided it would be funny if I added ragdoll physics to the final model. This is something I had never tried before, but it turned out to be simpler than I expected.
Having a physics-based character also opened up interesting design possibilities, and one I ended up going with was bombs that can come out of presents when you open them. When they explode they make you drop some of what you're carrying and send you and anything else around them flying, making the experience a lot more chaotic. At the halfway point, bombs also start to fall from the sky. This adds to the chaos and punishes players who hold onto their presents for too long without delivering them.
When watching others play this, they always remark on how funny the movement is. Above anything, this project taught me to design around what makes the game fun to play.
